This brief history and guide hows how coordinated plantings will enhance public enjoyment of the part of Massachusetts Avenue NW known as Embassy Row. This route’s fabled Beaux Arts mansions are preserved by law. But there was no guidance for the street landscape, such as allées of large trees. Since publication the book has guided owners, developers and city agencies decisions on buildings and streetscape on the historic avenue. A Grand Avenue Revival won DC 2015 Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation/Educationate from the DC Preservation League and Office of Planning.
